Our dining room table

Our dining room is a bit odd shaped so when it came to looking for a dining table, nothing out there really fit what we were looking for. We also needed one that was large. So we decided to make our own. It is square and fits 8 people easily – more if we squeeze a little. Brian did the bulk of the work with some help from the boys. I think it turned out great.

Welcoming our newest family member

She weighed in at 6lbs 4oz with a full head of hair.

It took about 6 hours for her to make her arrival. Here she is……

Isn’t she beautiful? Did ya’ll think I had the baby? No, I am still big and round. This is Brownie, Lisa’s new puppy. I am obviously getting bored waiting and needed to cause a little mischief.

Fun projects for baby

When we lived in Houston Katy and I were part of a Threads of Love group. We crocheted edging on fleece blankets and made matching hats. The blankets went to the NICU at a local hospital. I decided it was a perfect thing to make for our new baby. I even made matching booties. The second blanket is flannel on one side and minky on the other. I also made coordinating burp clothes. The last project is nursing cover. They sell for $35-$50. That price is out of my budget so I made one. I spent $7 and 30 minutes. I am hoping to get a few more things made in the next few weeks.

Soap and lip balm

Recently I spent the morning in the kitchen creating. I made peppermint cocoa lip balm, powdered laundry detergent and two kinds of soap. I love making things like this and have considered making a business out of it in the future. The laundry detergent is cheaper than anything I could buy and always comes out on top when I put it to the test against store bought detergent. I am excited to try the soap (it just finished curing) as I experimented little. My two soap creations are lavender goat milk soap and oatmeal cinnamon goat milk soap.

Katy’s new outfit

Katy found a McCall’s pattern for an early american outfit. She was so excited about getting the pattern and supplies and digging in to make it. She started the pattern on Thursday and completed it by Monday night. She made pantaloons, a bonnet, a apron and the dress. There were some challenging moments during the project, but she stuck with it and has a beautiful outfit to show for it.
